LEAP is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that is dependent upon your support to help our children and other needful clients. Contributions of time and funding are greatly appreciated.

LEAP would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have joined us in helping the abused children and troubled families of the Lowcountry. Without your help, many young lives would not have been resurrected. For all of them and from all of us – Thank You!

Members of our community from student volunteers to the Governor’s office have supported LEAP this year in many ways:

Grants were received in 2007 from:

*       The Junior League of Charleston

*       The Exchange Club of Charleston

*       South Carolina State Budget & Control Board

*       Central Carolina Community Foundation

*       Coastal Community Foundation of SC

*       The Donaldson Family Charitable Trust

*       Coastal Community Foundation of SC on behalf of Blackbaud

*       Walmart stores of the Lowcountry

*       Christ Our King Church of Charleston

*       Second Presbyterian Church

*       Palmetto Ford

Grants have been awarded for receipt in 2008 from:

*       The Post & Courier Foundation

*       The Bakker Family Foundation

An important part of the LEAP treatment is having quiet, restful, pastoral settings with open fields and protective paddocks for our patients to interact with their equine therapist partners. These venues are made possible by the generosity of our landowners and their on-going support and commitment:

*       Mary Anne and Bill Luttrell, owners of our Huger site

*       Pam Stewart, owner of our Johns Island site

Many hundreds of individuals have given their time, effort, and financial support to LEAP. To recognize those who have made unique and special contributions to our cause, we have established The FRIENDS of LEAP program. The charter members of the FRIENDS of LEAP are:

*       Mary Anne and Bill Luttrell

*       Pam Stewart and her late husband, Bob

*       Patricia Manigault

*       Barbara Vaughn

*       Linda Vinson

*       Helen Lipovsky

*       Anne Frazier

*       Hilton Smith of the East Bay Company

LEAP has benefited greatly from its fundraisers and we would like to thank all of those who attended, contributed, and volunteered. In particular, we are especially grateful to those who organized and put on the events:

*       For Arts & Oysters, our most successful fundraiser ever, we owe our thanks to Linda Vinson and Ellie Pollard for their months of hard work.

*       For the LEAP Hoedown, where a great time was had by all, we thank Anne Frazier and Denise Sokolsky.

And for the Earthfare event, where LEAP was featured for a month and got wonderful exposure to the public, we are again indebted to Denise Sokolsky and Anne Frazier, as well as Lesa Johnson, Manager of Earthfare, who helped us in countless ways.

Major cuts in mental health funding have left most low and even middle income children and families without the means to get the emotional help they need. Left unattended, childhood traumas, like physical and emotional abuse and parental neglect, can lead to life long emotional problems and even anti-social and criminal behavior. Abused children often live lives of self-destructive desperation. Traumatized young people often seek answers in illegal drugs and negative behavior.

Life long emotional distress and dysfunction have become the norm for many mistreated children from low income families. It is their default reality. But it does not have to be. LEAP was specifically designed to help ‘at risk’ children and young people get their lives back on track.

LEAP can help. With your support, we can reach at risk young people and make a real difference.

Your investment in LEAP is an investment in the future. An investment that benefits everyone. But we can’t reach them without your help.

Please contact LEAP to make a contribution and to help in anyway you can. Thank you.
