LEAP uses a variety of horses as co-therapists in our programs. They are all colors, types, breeds, and personality. All we ask is that they be kind, caring, "people" horses. Here are just a few of our horse friends:

The horse is uniquely qualified to be a therapy partner and is beneficial in helping deal with emotional issues because he:

  • Cannot be emotionally manipulated or intimated
  • Gives a straight-forward response to the patient's behavior - horses don't lie!
  • Is highly sensitive to body-language and other non-verbal signals
  • And, when treated with kindness, no matter how ineptly, offers immediate and unconditional love and friendship.

LEAP uses the unique and ancient bond between human and horse to break through barriers often encountered in traditional therapeutic modalities.

But LEAP is not about riding or horsemanship.  It is about personal growth and development.  In fact, 90+% of the activity takes place, not on horseback, but on the ground, with individuals who have never touched a horse before.
